ONE OF THE BIGGEST CRISES OF IN THE WORLD OF ALL TIMES. UM TO FACE PUBLIC HEALTH. PUBLIC EDUCATION IN EVERY SYSTEM KNOWN TO MAN. UM SO I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS MOMENT TO THANK MY HEAVENLY FATHER OR KEEPING MY MIND. UM. AND PROTECTING ME AND KEEPING ME UM, DURING THIS PROCESS SO THAT I CAN SERVE AH, A PART OF MY PURPOSE. BECAUSE I TRULY BELIEVE IN MY HEART OF HEARTS. THAT ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I'M ON THIS EARTH IS TO SERVE CHILDREN. AND I JUST GIVE GOD PRAISE FOR THE ABILITY TO DO THAT. IT'S TRULY BEEN AN HONOR. IT'S OFTEN SAID THAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS IN OUR LIVES, OUR HEALTH AND OUR KIDS, OUR GRANDKIDS. IF THAT'S TRUE, THEN I'VE HAD THE DISTINCT PRIVILEGE OF HELPING THOUSANDS OF FOLKS IN HARFORD COUNTY ENJOY GOOD HEALTH AT 41 YEARS. AND HELPING YOUR CHILDREN GRANDCHILDREN NAVIGATE THE COMPLEXITIES OF EDUCATION FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS. THESE TWO WORLDS MERGED. AND WHAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING DAYS IN MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER? WHEN I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF HANDING DIPLOMAS TO TWO OF MY PATIENTS WITH TYPE ONE DIABETES AT THEIR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION A FEW WEEKS AGO. I HOPE YOU WERE ABLE TO READ THEIR THE ARTICLE ON THE AEGIS, HIGHLIGHTING THEIR STORIES. ONE OF MY LONGTIME GOLF BUDDIES ALSO OFTEN SAID QUOTE.

IT MAY NOT LOOK LIKE IT, BUT I'M TRYING MY HARDEST AND EVERY SHOT. I CAN EXTRAPOLATE THAT STATEMENT TO REFLECT MY WORK ON THE SCHOOL BOARD FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS. I TRIED MY HARDEST TO DO THE BEST I COULD TO THE BENEFIT OF 38,000 STUDENTS AND SOME 5000 FACULTY AND STAFF. YES THERE WERE SOME TIMES WHERE MY PERSONAL VALUES MAY HAVE COLLIDED WITH WHAT WITH WHAT WAS IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF HCPS. BUT I WAS NOT CHOSEN TO SIT ON THIS BOARD TO BRING MY VALUES TO THE TABLE. I WAS APPOINTED BY THEN GOVERNOR HOGAN TO BE AN ADVOCATE FOR STUDENTS. AND I TRIED MY HARDEST TO FULFILL THAT RESPONSIBILITY. BUT EDUCATORS, ADMINISTRATORS AND BOARD MEMBERS CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH. MR HENNIGAN CITED A STATISTIC A FEW YEARS AGO THAT ONLY 13% OF HIS STUDENTS TIME DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR SPENT IN THE CLASSROOM. PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS MUST TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION. READ TO YOUR CHILDREN. I READ TO MY KIDS EVERY NIGHT BEFORE THEY STARTED SCHOOL AND MAKE SURE THEY READ SOMETHING OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL WORK EVERY NIGHT BEFORE GOING TO BED. MY SON AND I DID MATH PROBLEMS ALMOST EVERY DAY DURING ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL. I MADE IT FUN. WE FIGURED OUT BASEBALL BATTING AVERAGES WITHOUT COMPUTERS. WE FIGURED OUT HOW MUCH MONEY WE COULD WIN AT THE RACETRACK BASED ON THE BETTING ODDS OF A HORSE. DESIRE TO LEARN, COMPELS FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT. AND THEN IN SEPTEMBER OF 22. THAT'S WHEN WE COMPLETED THE UPDATED SCOPE STUDY. UM WHICH WAS FOR A ELEMENTARY COMBINED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND, UM, SPECIAL EDUCATION FACILITY. UM AND WE WENT THROUGH THIS AND A LITTLE BIT MORE DETAIL. LAST MEETING, UM THERE WERE MULTIPLE PROGRAMS INTO THE BUILDING, WHICH ALSO, UM HAD TO HAVE MULTIPLE CRITERIA THAT HAD TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN LOOKING AT THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS, THE PUBLIC DAY SCHOOL, THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE MODEL SCHOOL TO MAKE SURE WE OFFERED THOSE INCLUSION AND OPPORTUNITIES WHERE IT MADE MORE SENSE BUT DID NOT HAVE THEM FORCED IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS. UM WE ADDRESSED MANY CONCERNS FROM PARENTS AND STAFF. UM AND WE ALSO HAD MANY SITE RESTRICTIONS,

UM WE DID HAVE MULTIPLE STAKEHOLDERS AND WE WERE ABLE TO MEET WITH THEM THROUGH MULTIPLE MEETINGS. AND TRY TO ADDRESS EVERYONE'S NEEDS IN THIS BUILDING AND THEN ALSO STILL MAINTAIN A SIGNAL SINGLE COMMUNITY IN THE SCHOOL. WE HAVE MULTIPLE PROGRAMS, MULTIPLE PEOPLE COMING IN AND OUT. THERE WERE MULTIPLE CONSIDERATIONS MADE BOTH SAFETY AND SECURITY BUT ALSO FOR UM, EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE BUILDING IS THAT'S THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE BUILDING AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S NOT INTERFERED WITH THROUGHOUT THE DAY. ARE THERE OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE STATE THAT ARE THE SAME MODEL? THERE ARE OTHER. PUBLIC DAY SCHOOLS. UM THEY ARE THEY DO SHARE THE SAME FACILITY. BUT AGAIN, THEY HAVE THAT SEPARATION AND THE INCLUSION OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE, UM, AS STAFF ALLOW FOR THE MODEL SCHOOL PORTION, THERE'S MULTIPLE PROGRAMS. NO MATTER THE ROLE THEY PLAY. EVERYONE DOES THEIR BEST TO MAKE SURE KIDS ARE FED CLOTHED, WELCOMED AND HAVE WITH A NEED SO THEY CAN LEARN NUMBER TWO.
