AH, I'LL BEGIN WITH SOME HISTORY. SO I BEGAN MY RUN FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION BACK IN THE FALL OF 2017. AT THE TIME. I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE THEN ON THE BOARD. I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. SENIOR STAFF AND I DID NOT KNOW ANY OF THE OTHER CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS. IT WAS VERY MUCH A RANDOM PARENTS FROM THE COMMUNITY. WITH AN ABOVE AVERAGE INTEREST IN EDUCATION. IN 2018. I MET THE OTHER CANDIDATES FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION ALONG WITH CANDIDATES FOR OTHER OFFICES, REPRESENTATIVES OF SOME SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS AND, OF COURSE, LOTS OF VOTERS. TALKING WITH PEOPLE BACK IN 2018 MANY VISIONS FOR WHAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND COUNTY IN GENERAL SHOULD BE LIKE. DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT VISIONS ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT THE FUTURE TO BE LIKE. AND THAT IS A GOOD THING. NOW HOWEVER, I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE A DEEPLY DISTORTED VIEW OF WHAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS DOING RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY, MAKING PUBLIC COMMENTS MORE CLOSELY ALIGNED THE Q AND ON AND PIZZA GATE CONSPIRACY THEORIES THAN ANYTHING THAT I'VE HEARD FROM PEOPLE IN 2018. IN 2018. I TALKED TO A VARIETY OF VOTERS CANDIDATES. AND OTHERS. NOBODY THAT I TALKED TO. ABOUT HOT WITHIN 2018 EXPRESSED VIEW SO FAR FROM REALITY AS SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN GIVING PUBLIC COMMENTS THAT ARE BORED AND COUNTY COUNCIL MEETINGS. IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF OR SO I'VE HEARD COMPLAINTS. THE BOARD OF EDUCATION ISN'T REPRESENTING THE COMMUNITY. AND THAT THERE IS A LACK OF QUOTE, LOCAL CONTROL AND QUOTE. I BELIEVE THESE COMMENTS FROM MISINFORMED THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT LOCAL

CONTROL LOOKS LIKE. I BELIEVE THAT THE CURRENT BOARD IS GENERALLY REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR COUNTY. WITH THE ADMITTED BY US OF MORE EDUCATION THAN AVERAGE. REPORT MEMBERS HAVE A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS OF POLITICAL ALIGNMENTS AND PERSONAL BELIEFS. WE HAVE BOTH LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES. I DO NOT KNOW THE POLITICAL ALIGNMENT OF ALL OF MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS, BUT I'M PRETTY CONFIDENT WE DON'T HAVE ANY ACTUAL MARXISTS ON THE BOARD. WE HAVE A Q. WE HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF BEING MARXIST TEACHING CRITICAL RACE THEORY, ABUSING CHILDREN BEING PAID MONEY TO HAVE A MASK MANDATE. AND MANY OTHER THINGS THAT COINCIDENTALLY MATCHES LANGUAGE BEING USED NATIONALLY AT THE SAME TIME FRAMES. THE SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS SOME REAL CHALLENGES TO HIT. ACROSS THE NATION. SCHOOLS ARE FACING SHORTAGES OF TEACHERS AND OTHER STAFF. MENTAL HEALTH AMONG CHILDREN AND TEENS HAS BEEN ON THE DECLINE FOR ABOUT A DECADE. AND THE PANDEMIC APPEARS TO HAVE ACCELERATED THE PROBLEM. AT THE STATE LEVEL. MARYLAND IS PROVIDING A LOT OF HELP WITH THE BLUEPRINT FROM MARYLAND FUTURE. THAT IS GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF WORK TO IMPLEMENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF PEOPLE WOULD STOP THROWING THICK ISSUES INTO THE DISCUSSION. BECAUSE WE REALLY NEED THE SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY TO ADDRESS THESE REAL CHALLENGES THAT WE THANKS. MADISON NIGHT OF PATTERSON MILL HIGH SCHOOL WHO WAS RECOGNIZED BY THE BALTIMORE SUN AS THE METRO PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR SOFTBALL. SHE HAD AN AMAZING RECORD, BOTH OF JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR. I THINK SHE MAY HAVE LOST ONE GAME. IN THOSE TWO YEARS. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE EVER HAD A PLAYER OF THE SUN PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN HARFORD COUNTY, AT LEAST AS FAR AS I CAN RECALL, BUT ANYWAY, CONGRATULATIONS TO MADISON AND WE WISH OUR LUCK PITCHING FOR SYRACUSE NEXT YEAR. WHAT IS THE IMPETUS FOR THE RENAMING OF THE SCHOOLS? IT IS NONE OTHER THAN THE IDEOLOGY WERE CURRENTLY IMPLEMENTING, TAKEN STRAIGHT OUT OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY. THE NEW CURRICULUM , YOU INSIST ISN'T BEING TAUGHT. THE WOKE IDEAL OF VIEWING EVERYTHING FROM THE LENS OF EQUITY REQUIRES YOU TO REMOVE OUR NATION'S HISTORY SO AS TO FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM OUR REPUBLIC INTO A MARXIST UTOPIA. THIS REIMAGINING OF HISTORY HAS BEEN TRIED BEFORE BY TOTALITARIAN REGIMES, AND IT HAS ALWAYS LED TO DISASTROUS RESULTS. UM ARE SECONDARY HONOREE IS MISS KAREN JONES, SCIENCE TEACHER AT BOSTON MIDDLE SCHOOL. THANKS TO BOTH OF OUR 2022 GREEN TEACHERS OF THE YEAR FOR THEIR ROLE IN PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY AND STEWARDSHIP IN HCPS. WE ALSO WANT TO THANK THE ARTHUR HARFORD COUNTY EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR THEIR SUPPORT. THEY SECURED AN INNOVATION GRANT. THAT WAS AWARDED TO DEERFIELD FOR THE DEERFIELD GUITAR CLUB. ACTUALLY I HAD HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND WHEN THEY HANDED THE CHECK OFF TO THE GROUP. UM IT'S REALLY KIND OF A FUN EVENT. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES GUITAR INSTRUCTION AND CREATIVE OUTLET FOR 39 4TH AND FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS IN A BEFORE SCHOOL FORMAT. THE STUDENTS COLLABORATION. STUDENT COLLABORATION BETWEEN EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL AND DEERFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OCCURRED DURING BOTH EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL AND DFL IMAGE SCHOOL GUITAR CLASSES WITH COMBINED PERFORMANCES AT THE FIRST EDGEWOOD AREA GUITAR FESTIVALS SOLO FINISHED OUT THE YEAR STRONG IT WAS IT WAS, IT WAS KIND OF FUN TO SEE THEM IN ACTION.
