IN A GROUP OF 100 YOUNG QUEER STUDENTS, NEARLY 60 OF THEM LIVE IN FEAR. IN FACT , AS REPORTED BY THE TREVOR PROJECT, LGBT Q. PLUS YOUTH ARE FOUR TIMES AS LIKELY TO COMMIT SUICIDE THAN THEIR STRAIGHT PEERS. IMAGINE BEING SO AFRAID OF GOING TO SCHOOL SIMPLY BECAUSE OF YOUR IDENTITY. SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN'T CHANGE. INCLUDING POSITIVE LGBT Q. PLUS EDUCATION IN CURRICULUM HURTS. NO ONE CAN ONLY BENEFIT LGBT Q PLUS STUDENTS AND THEIR SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. STUDENTS ARE USING PICTURE USING THEIR CELL PHONES TO TAKE PICTURES OF OTHER STUDENTS AND STAFF DURING CLASSES AND WITHOUT PERMISSION, POSTING THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA. STUDENTS ARE MAKING TIKTOK'S IN THE BATHROOM OF THEMSELVES AND OTHERS, VAPING. ARE VIDEOTAPING THEIR PARTICIPATION IN VANDALISM AS PART OF THE DEVIOUS LICKS. THEY'RE ALSO USING THEIR PHONES TO ACCESS PORNOGRAPHIC WEBSITES AND USING IT AS A BULLYING AND HARASSMENT TOOLS. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY IS ALSO RAN. PICTURES OF TESTS AND QUIZZES ARE PASSED AROUND. STUDENTS TEXT EACH OTHER [00:10:04] ANSWERS DURING THE TEST. STUDENTS ROUTINELY TEXT OR CALL PARENTS FROM BATHROOMS TO PICK THEM UP EARLY TO AVOID LATE PENALTIES FOR NOT HAVING WORK COMPLETED OR TO MISS TESTS AND QUIZZES. PARENTS ALSO TEXT AND CALL THEIR CHILDREN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY AND EXPECT THEIR STUDENTS TO ANSWER THE CALLS OR TEXT DURING CLASS. ANOTHER STUDENT ARE PASSED FROM STUDENT TO STUDENT AND END UP BEING THE SUBJECT OF MORE QUESTIONABLE BEHAVIOR DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. AS DR PHILLIPS QUESTION LAST WEEK. YES THESE ISSUES BECOME OUR ISSUES BECAUSE IT AFFECTS CHILDREN DURING THE SCHOOL THERE. THE CURRICULUM BEING USED IN EVERY HCPS CLASSROOMS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS. THE CURRICULUM NEEDS TO BE EASILY ACCESSIBLE, AND PARENTS SHOULD BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPT OUT OF ANY ASSIGNMENT THAT THEY DECIDE IT'S NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE IN, AND HCPS SHOULD PROVIDE AN ALTERNATE ALTERNATE ASSIGNMENT. AT THE PARENTS' REQUESTS OR EXCUSE THE CHILD FROM COMPLETING THE ASSIGNMENT. WELL, I UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO TEACH THESE CHILDREN TO BE COMPASSIONATE AND RESPECT ALL OF THEIR CLASSMATES, THEIR DIFFERENCES AND THEIR INDIVIDUALITY, TEACHING CHILDREN IN SCHOOL ABOUT GENDERS AND SEXUAL PREFERENCES CROSSES THE LINE. THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SHOULD NOT BE DISCUSSING SEXUAL PREFERENCES AND IDENTITIES WITH CHILDREN.
